Today I want to talk about how you can guest post to promote your YouTube channel and get more fans and sbuscribers as a result.
After doing some research and trying a few different things I´ve found a good formula you can use to go about guest blogging.
So, without much further ado, let´s start!
What is Guest Blogging?
Guest blogging is basically writing posts for other people’s blogs, yap, as simple as that.
Although is a simple concept the real issue with it is how you expose yourself to a brand new audience and get noticed so that people actually want to click away and head over to your YouTube channel.
On the other hand, there´s a second obstacle, which is to find GOOD opportunities that can create some level of repercussion and get more eyeballs by posting on authoritative sites.
So, creating a nice post that can bring value to a potential audience that could be interested in what you have to say is not even the first step…
…Let me show you what is.
How To Guest Post On Blogs?
There are, at least, five steps to creating a successful guest post and drive tons of targeted traffic of people that will be glad to find you and watch your YouTube videos.
Those are:
- Setting up your branding.
- Find perfect opportunities.
- Get the post ready to go.
- Pitch blog owners the right way.
- Follow up.
If you follow these simple steps you´ll find how easy guest posting can be.
Leverage With Branding
First, you got to get your branding right in order for people to be able to recognize you.
There are a number of ways you can pull that off.
You have to use the “about the author” section in a smart way, for example, using a good photo profile is a MUST.
It doesn´t have to be anything fancy, just authentic but with good enough resolution so that people can look at you!
Craft a nice paragraph or two to introduce yourself and what your channel and content are all about. This is when you share your WHY and what´s the end goal of your Youtube channel.
“Helping people to build an online business & create better content.”
Then, fininsh up with a simple call to action so that people know exactly what to do if they want to know more about you and what you offer.
Some other quick tips about writing style when it comes to branding are:
You should use the same colors or theme if possible, grab attention with a nice looking logo, and personalize your writing by expressing with words the same way you talk and with a consistent tone of voice.
Last but not least, make sure to link to your channel at the beginnig of your post and at the very end. (According to some stuides that´s where most people will click)
Find Niche Related Opportunities
Although there are a number of ways you can find great opportunities online I want to give 3 of the most effective ones.
Method #1: Google Search
Yap, you can simply start with a couple of google searches and get started from there.
Here are a few keywords you might want to try:
Keyword + “guest post“, keyword + “write for us“, keyword + “guest article“, keyword + “contributing writer“, keyword + “articles wanted“, and so on.
If you type these keywords you´ll find an endless amount of possibilities to choose from and you can follow the rabbit hole until you get a large list that you can use in the future.
Method #2: Leverage With Lists
There are so many examples of great sites that create amazing resources that can actually help you.
One good example of this is Solvid and the post they´ve made about guest posting: List of 300+ Websites/Blogs That Accept Guest Posts & Contributions.
You can easily find a lot of other sites and posts like this that can save you a ton of time and even provide you with MORE resources and examples than what you could ever find by yourself.
What´s the best part?
There are a lot of sites that cover almost any sort of topic so you can probably find a couple that can relate directly to your content.
Method #3: Reverse Engineer Backlinks
Warning! This one is a more advanced method for those who want to take things to the next level.
That being said, here´s how it works:
If you notice that other competitors or blogs that are similar to your type of content appear for the keyword you are interested in you can get a plethora of great guest posting opportunities.
You just grab that homepage URL and by using a tool like Ahrefs you´ll get a full list of sites that offer guest posts in your niche!
Although there are many of the backlinks that won´t show that, if it´s a big enough site, there will be dozens that will, in fact, one GREAT thing about this method is that you can uncover some high-quality sites that accept guest post but don´t have a “write for us” section.
Something that certainly gives you an advantage!
Get Your Post Ready
After you´re done with the niche research and you have found some great sites where you can post on is time to create some high-quality content.
One effective way to find content that will appeal to that authoritative site and that will get your foot in the door is by looking into the “most popular posts” section.
No matter how you find them, the good thing is that these topics are proven to be shared and commented on so the more in depth you go with this the BETTER.
I mean that you should ONLY write popular content that is going to be read by those site´s audiences so that they actually consider your post as a good article.
Now that you know what topic to write about you can start typing and figure out how you can turn those readers into new subscribers for you channel.
Here´s how:
- First, mention your YouTube channel at the beginning of your post: “I cover this same technique in my videos, here´s my channel“, and you put your link in there.
- Then, write something that could get more engagement if it can be shown in a video. It can be a step-by-step tutorial or a simple list of tips, the purpose is the pick people´s curiosity. If your post is good enough they´ll want to see more of it!
- Finally, finish with a CTA (call to action). I know, I´ve said it before but I´ll say it again because it is KEY. If you don´t tell people what to do at the end of your post most of them will not bother to click your link.
Make sure you follow the guidelines imposed by the site, you don´t want to get banned.
In fact.
Treat it as if you were trying to build a long-term relationships with them, because you ARE!
Caveat – If you are going to embed your video on the post make sure it makes sense, it shouldn´t be redundant and repeat most of the content you´ve already written.
¡Pitch Them Right!
If you already have a few subscribers and an original topic this step will be pretty easy, but in case you don´t I´ll give you some tips that will work no matter your situation.
This is basically a two step process:
- Engage as a reader and fully participate.
- Send a crafted email template.
First, you´ll have to actually read some popular posts that
This will serve two purposes, on one hand, you´ll be certain that the site is the right choice for your content, and on the other is that you will gain some presence. (That you´ll be using later on)
After doing just that for a few times you might want to share a post or two on social media.
Keep in mind! Every time you comment on a post you should try to provide some value or insight on the subject.
Don´t just go about it and write: “great article“.
Now, the second step is to design an effective email template that picks interest while you give them specific choices, but keep it short and simple.
So, how you should do it?
Well, start off by saying that you´ve been reading post on the site for a while (don´t get specific on this) and then you provide a link from a post that you´ve commented on.
Be always polite and give away your post topic in advance so that they can decide whether is a good fit or not.
Giving the fact that you´ve previously done your research, 9 times out of 10 they will say YES!
Follow Up
Lastly, once your post been accepted you don´t want to simply leave it at that, certainly not after all the hard work you´ve put into this strategy.
You should respond at all the comments you possibly can within the first 48 hours (at least) and create further engagement by letting your readers know that you CARE.
This will lead to more people clicking and improve your viewership in the long-term.
Then, you should send an email follow up to the site owner or manager to let them know that you´ve appreciated the opportunity and that you can´t wait to work with them again in the future.
Remember! You are building a long-term relationship with them, treat it as such.
Last but not least, you might want to share your guest post on social media and let your followers know about your new post, so that they may share it with theirs.
