Kid YouTube Channel Ideas: The Definitive Guide

Today I´m going to talk about what are some great kid YouTube channel ideas to start making videos right away!

Although the competition is getting tougher and tougher on the platform there´s still room for more YouTube channels that offer creative and entertaining content to the viewer.

So, without much further adeu let´s start!

How To Stay Safe On YouTube?

There are a few things you should know before you start your own YouTube channel in order to stay safe and prevent situations that could put you or your family at risk.

Here´s how:

  • Use a fake name – You can choose to use a fake or artistic name for your channel, not necessarily your own. That way you make people a little bit harder to find you.
  • Be aware of what you show – Whether that is the front of your house, your home address, phone, or anything that could have sensible or important information try to cut it out from your footage.
  • Use YouTube´s safety tools – In order to protect your privacy you can follow YouTube´s rules and tools so that you avoid any harming situation, for example, friend blocking, moderating (or disabling) comments, enable restricted mode, etc. You can always go to YouTube Help for more information.

Little caveat! I´ll keep udated this post as things move forward but I want to say I recently deleted a few ideas as they are becoming too competitive in my opinion so it´s not actually 50+ channel ideas right now, but I promise is gonna be! Sorry. 😁

1. The Kid Vlog

The first idea MUST be the good old YouTube vlogging channel… for kids!

You can go about your day, film your day at school, learn and teach others some tips on how to do homework, you can share your struggles, where do you live, etc.

As long as you make it about yourself and how YOU view the world being a kid or a teen then it´s gonig to work as it will appeal to a younger audience.

You can still crush it with vlogging as it is one of the most popular types of channels otu there so you might as well take advantage of it!

2. Explain Nature

You can have a channel where you explain simple but yet important facts about nature!

There are a lot of kids that would be really curious about how some things work, like why the sky is blue, or how trees grow.

So, if you like the wild, love to explore outside, and want to learn more abotu mother nature then you can make YouTube channel about it.

3. The Interviewer

A funny thing happens when people is interviewed by a kid, they open up!

You can take advantage of this as there are a lot of people that feel very comfortable talking to a kid, and almost nobody will refuse to give a little bit of their time if you ask and be respectful.

The goal is to make interesting questions, whether that is to adults or even to other kids!

You can find ton of great examples online, so if you were thinking of becoming a reporter one day or you just think this could be fun then give it a go.

4. Trending Channel

You can have a channel where you talk about things that are trending right now or that are going to be the next trends, whether that is on tech, social media, or whatever you can think of.

The purpose is to make trends the main focus of the channel, you can easily use tools like Google Trends to make your job way easier.

One of the most powerful words in the English lenguage is actualy the word NEW, anything that is new and/or popular becomes a trend and therefore a great topic idea for a YouTube video!

5. Food Reviews

This one can be so much fun to do!

Instead of doing the popular but kind of common cooking channel you can directly go to the end line and try the food, review it, taste it, and give your opinion about it.

You can also make it a cooking show type of channel as long as you focus on making the food review.

You should have fun with it and make weird or more specific types of dishes so that you don´t fall into the same kind of videos that are already out there.

The HiHo Kids channel is a great example of this:

TIP! try to make event-related or place-related food review videos, those are incredibly engaging for the viewer.

6. ¡Talk About School!

Although is a type of vlogging the main focus here is that you talk about mostly school related topics.

I mean, what kid wouldn´t relate to that?

You can share some of your struggles as a kid and what you did (or are doing) to overcome them, talk about bullying, you can invite some of your friends to ask them about their experiences, make a funny video about type of teachers, etc.

The goal is to get creative with it but at the same time stay on topic, once your channel has grown you can talk about other stuff and not only school.

7. The Learning Curve

A channel where you share the process that takes you from knowing ZERO about something and then showing clip by clip, video by video, how you get better and what you´ve learned in the journey can be very interesting, as well as motivating.

When you watch a YouTube video you´ll get the polished version of a person, whether that is an educational video or someone playing video games it is VERY possible that they´ve filmed those clips for several hours, then edit a ton of section, and finally add some color grading and effects to it.

You can show a different, more raw, and honest version of how you become a YouTuber, how long does it take you to actually make a video, from start to finish, and things of that regard.

8. Make Money As a Kid

Now, you don´t need to actually know how to make money as a kid, but you can always do some research and share what you´ve learned!

There´s ALWAYS going to be a kid/teen interested in ways to make money. Whether that is to buy the next game console, upgrade their computer, or go to the movies, this idea can turn into an incredibly helpful channel.

So, if you want to take this YouTube channel idea to the next level then you can specifically create videos about making money ONLINE for kids. 😉

9. What You Know/Like

If there´s any hobby or passion that you feel very comfortable doing maybe you can think of ways to turn it into a YouTube channel.

What are some topics or even keywords people may type or would like to find on YouTube that are related to your hobby.

You can start your hit list of topics you can make a video about!

The best part?

You´ll do what you already LOVE to do, so it´ll be easy and fun.

10. Talk YouTube

Nowadays, if you´d ask a kid what they want to be when they grow up there´s a 50/50 chance they´ll answer: a YouTube star.

So, if you know that´s the case for you or most of your friends then making a YouTube channel where you teach other kids how to start on YouTube, you can do a good research to learn what are the best tips and tricks for kids, how to film, how to edit, etc.

In short: make videos about how you make your videos and optimize content for the platform. Period.

11. Music Channel

You can build an entire channel about music, create tutorials, teach the basics of music theory, how to play the guitar or ukelele, etc.

You can show off your own skills and start off your music career, which is, by the way, a great way to get started as YouTube has its own course on this!

You might want to check it out: YouTube Music Channel.

12. Drawing

You´ve probably heard about this one as there are quite a few channels out there that make good-looking drawing videos.

So, if you like to draw and you have a phone (which you probably do) just make sure to find a clean desk in yoru house, hit record, and start drawing, there are tons of tutorials on how to actually do it, you just need to start!

13. Crafting

Another great channel type is making crafts and handmade stuff that people can DIY themselves and do at home.

In fact, I would say that anything that can be homemade as long as it´s fairly easy to do will work on YouTube, I mean, that how YouTube actually got started in the first place, with how-tos and tutorials!

14. Go Out & Explore

You can make a channel where you explore some of the places from the town/city you are in and other popular sites that could be interesting.

The goal is to make a more adventurous type of videos and have outdoors channels for kids where you can teach fun games to play outside, tutorials on how to build your tree house (just make sure to ask for some help to your dad), and things like that.

So, if you like to be outside all day you might as well take adantage of it and take your camera with you!

15. Go To The Backyard!

Take in consideration that the average kid loves to watch other kids play on YouTube and also LOVES YouTube, they watch way more hours of content than the average adult does.

If you want to learn how to do it and how effective it can be here´s a great video about it:

Make sure to watch until the end of the video as they give great advice for newbie YouTubers.

That´s the beauty of YouTube, there´s no one exact way to do a vlog, there´s no one way to do any kind of channel, do something that fits your personality, your talent. There´s going to be people that will resonate with that.

16. Tutorials 4 Kids

You can make tutorials, like the rest of the YouTube channels out there, OR… you can make kid-related tutorials.

Like this channel:

Although this one is all about crafts you make your channel about anything at all, as long as it is something specific for kids or teens.

You can teach how to ride a bike, or how to draw, beginners tutorials all of sort directly related to things that kids most like will work just fine.

17. Wracking (Destructing)

Yep! Demolition videos still work… and will probably continue to do so.

There are HUGE channels like What´s Inside that found their niche by destroying things, and you can make your own too!

I mean, how would like to smash things against the wall and make a video that gets millions of views and earns tons of money as a result. 🤑

18. Gaming Channel

Another popular, and still effective, type of channel is one that is all about gaming.

Whether you show how you play, entertain people with the latest updates in the industry, show off your “gear”, or simply make video challenge videos with friends, it is always a great channel idea.

If not, why would YouTube teach a course especially for gamers:

So, what are you waiting for? Take that crash course and get started!

19. Fun Experiments

One of the more entertaining ways to learn probably is doing crazy experiments.

You can teach your viewers something totally new and, at the same time, you can entertain them with visual effects or the effect of surprise if you do it right.

In fact.

There´s a channel called Experimental Fun that only has 30 videos on it but more than 300.000 subscribers, which is a lot considering the small number of videos they´ve uploaded.

Take a look at one of their most popular videos:

20. Magic Tricks

You´ve seen how attention-grabbing magic can be, right?

Well, when it comes to YouTube doing magic tricks for a wider audience and with the potential the platform offers you can only hope to be worldwide famours if you perform for people on the street or teach your viewers how to do a few simple magic tricks for their love ones.

So, whether you do it as a hobby or as a profession you should consider making magic tricks videos as they work very well on YouTube.

21. Friends Collabs

Looking for help in others is always a great idea when you feel stuck!

However, it can be an awesome idea for a YouTube channel, collaborating with friends so that together you can all figure out what to do next can be so much fun.

There are lots of successful YouTube channesl where friends got together to create something really cool, and that is the case of Video Influencers or the Jump Rope Dudes.

Plus! You can save a lot of time and create more content if you are a team two or more people, which will also result in accelerated growth.

22. All About Phones

Do you have ANY idea of how much time do kids spend glued to their phones!?

If you make a channel where you address kid apps, how to take the best selfie for Instagram, what is the best gadget for iPhone, or what are some cool tips and tricks to hack phones then you´ll surely get kids interested.

22. Kid Comedian

YouTube is the number one place people go to when it comes to entertainment, especially kids.

YOU can be the one that makes them pass the time and get a laugh or two if you make a comedy YouTube channel, but more so if you are Kid… why?

Well, simply because there are tons of comedy channels out there, but not so many kid YouTubers that are also comedians!

23. Beauty Tips

You´ve probably seen already these type of channels out there… and that is because they WORK.

Video content where teens can learn things like how to dress better or for certain events, how you can look better by eating specific foods or apply makeup correctly, or whatever it may be is always going to be popular.

In fact.

YouTube itself lets you know they also have a dedicated course in their Creator Academy for beauty YouTubers.

So, if you were thinking of starting a channel like that you might want to check that crash course later.

24. Record Reactions

This is another VERY popular type of video/channel.

You can have so much fun just by capturing people´s reactions when you show them something they didn´t expect, at all.

For whatever reason, people love to see other´s people reactions to something, especially when is something weird/rare.

The best part?

You don´t even need to actually create the content, you just have to find the right fit between the person and the video you´re going to show them.

25. Choose a Sport

If you already like to play sports and you want to start a YouTube channel for kids then you should absolutely share your sport passion.

There will be many others that will also find your content good, helpful, and entertaining.

So, unless you like to play some really weird sport then it´s fair to say that there´s an audience out there waiting to see your content online.

26. Unboxing & Review

Here´s another proven topic you can choose where channels like Unbox Therapy have proven how crazy successful it can be to do product reviews… the right way!

I mean, who doesn´t enjoy the act of reaping of the box/package of a new product you´ve recently bought and try it for the first time?

Now, you don´t need to go to Amazon and start buying stuff you don´t actually want to buy or need to.

You can start reviewing items you found at home, ask a friend if he or she borrows you a product, maybe a family member if you know they recently bought the last iPhone.

27. Challenges!

You can challenge your friends and family, in fact, it is a great idea for a friends collabs type of channel!

In case you didn´t know, challenges on YouTube equals tons of views as it is so much fun to see others struggle to beat the other person in a contest.

Now, the more creative you get with it the better, you don´t necessarily want to make ANOTHER “who eats faster” type of video.

If you make new content, it´s creative, it is a challenge, and it is fun to watch, it can work.

28. Social Media

Kids love social media, they spend most of their lives glued to their phones simply liking, sharing, commenting, and tagging friends because that´s THE way they interact nowadays.

So, if you create a channel around that and you try to make it specifically for kids you can have a successful channel idea in your hands.

29. All Kids

Yep, pure and simple, create a YouTube channel that involves all things related to kids.

As long as you make it all about kids and teens you´ll have a fair chance of succeeding, whether is that you make a vlog, a gaming channel, or you choose to create cool tutorials.

30. Tops On Anything

People like to watch the best of the best on something… whatever it is, top movies, top cars, top bikes, top jokes, etc.

You can easily see why this sort of video content can be so entertaining.

The only rule to do this right is to edit your videos well, do a good research beforehand (as you don´t want to publish things that have been already out there for a long time), and make it enjoyable.

31. Talk About Art & Creativity

I´ve talked about most of the popular and known channel ideas out there but here is one that you don´t see as much, YouTubers talking about creativity, arts, and those sort of things.

Now, if you also make it about kids much better!

You can explain how you come up with YouTube video ideas, how you get inspired, what is to “be creative” to you, and all sort of things you can think of.

32. Kid Life Hacking

I love to learn little hacks that I can use in my day-to-day life and you probably do to, and so does a lot of people!

So, if you create an entire channel that is around that topic you can certainly succeed tremendously.

But.

If you make it particularly for kids, were the hacks involve things that most kids or teens would use or can take advantage of then you can rest assured that there will be lots of viewers interested!

The channel 5-Minute Crafts KIDS is the closest example I´ve found for this, but it is not exactly what I´m talking about, so GO FOR IT!

33. Career Advice

I know, it sounds a bit boring, but it can be an incredibly helpful type of channel if you make videos for teens that are going through that stage of life.

When you are a kid and you are trying to figure out what to do with the rest of your life it can be overwhelming or pretty much impossible.

So, having a YouTube channel where others have done the research for you MUST be a good idea, right?

34. Cooking

You can be the kid that teaches other kids how to prep easy meals that every child would LOVE.

Whether that is homemade french fries, popcorn to watch Netflix, or ice cream you can rest assured there will be a kid or two interested.

The goal is to make it as easy as you can and show that is possible for kids to cook!

35. Bullying

As you may know there are way too many kids that suffer bullying out there, so…

…making videos where you can teach about self-defence, how to be more confident as a teen, motivation videos, and so on, can be a great resource for many kids.

An entire channel that addresses this big issue that our society has can turn into something really good if you think about it.

36. The Family Vlog

You can get dad, mom, your siblings, or almost any other member of your family involved and you can get awesome footage for your channel.

When you film with others you can easily get great videos as there´s more people that participate and can make the video more interesting.

You can show what games you play, give a house tour, a bedroom tour, what´s your family life, etc.

Lots of channels doing the exact same thing.

37. Animations

If you like those Videoscribe videos where a hands seems to draw everything that the person mentions or those videos where you can learn about something while there are cool-looking animated cartoon that help you undestand the concepts explained then THIS one is for you!

Making animated videos is an entire industry within itself but, with the helpful of the right skills and technology, you can easily become a successful YouTuber by creating very entertaining videos.

One channel I would recommend you to watch in order to learn and get ideas from is Domics orBright Side.
