How To Promote Your YouTube Channel on Medium

When I was recently searching for an effective way to promote my YouTube channel I wondered if Medium could be a good option. So, I did some research to find out how GOOD it actually is.

So how you can promote your YouTube channel using Medium?

  1. Find what´s trending right now.
  2. Leverage with mutual audience building.
  3. Use some proven tactics.

Now, as you can see I´ve done my usual research and found a couple of different tips you can implement to grow an audience on the platform and get them engaged with your content!

So, let me tell you what those are.

What is Medium?

This site was launched by two of the two co-founders of Twitter and since its release to the world it never stopped growing.

Medium is an amazing social blogging platform that thrives with first person storytellin from its users and covers all kinds of debates and news from a variety of topics.

If you want to share some of your most insightful ideas then this is the right place to do it.

From articles that go about self-improvement tips to the latest tech news Medium is an awesome resource of knowledge and an excellent place to make your brand stand out.

You can easily share a piece of content and get viral hours, acquiring great exposure for you and your message.

However, there are a few tips and tactics you MUST apply in order to get to that level much quicker.

If you want to find out, keep reading…

1. Check Out What´s Popular

One of the first things you should do when you get to the platform is to look into the “popular” tab.

Dive deep into the most popular articles on Medium and find out what´s trending.

You can quickly see if there´s any content that stands out and that it is related to your content.

If you find one then JACKPOT!

You already know it´s popular so you can take advantage of that same topic you´ve chosen and then write something that relates and can go more in-depth or that simply takes a different turn.

Make sure you are original, write something from your OWN point of view and share it with the world.

People will follow and read more about you if you make it insightful and (in some level) personal.

2. Mutual Audience Building

Your second step should be starting a list of all your new best friends.

What do I mean?

If you want to get REAL leverage real quick you NEED to find real people that can help you with that and actually connect with them.

Simply look for people that have a similar sized audience (if you admire/like their writing the better), don´t bother approaching the Medium celebrities, search for similar keywords/topics/hashtags, and follow their work.

That way, once you start posting interesting responses/comments to their articles, you give a few “claps” here and there, you will get notices when you approached them.

Remember! You have to be willing to put in the work to build a relationship with them.

Then, after you´ve cultivated this new friendship for a while, you´ll offer the possibility of writing something that both of you are interested in, or maybe you propouse an intereview, or anything that could serve well to a cross promotion strategy.

3. Use Proven Tactics

Finally, here are a few strategies you should master in order to get noticed and get viewers to your videos.

  • Hone the craft of writing a good post. You don´t need to write long form content to thrive on Medium, it just needs to be GOOD. People will share it and like it if you make it worthy of their time. So, be helpful and original, then leave the rest to the fans.
  • Show up every single day. You want to be consistent, though I don´t mean you have to post every day, just simply show up. Respond to comment, engange with people, let them know you care.
  • Leverage with MIX.com. A great app that helps you save some of the best content online that is directly related to your niche or topic of interest. In fact, the software learns what you LOVE to read and shows you more content alike. It is a great way to maximize your content creation strategy on Medium.
  • Optimize your bio. THIS IS IT. You should take your time to craft a nice bio and share with your readers more about you and your message. Choose a cool pic and be compelling with your words. This is when you turn your readers into YouTube subscribes.
  • Embed your video. You want to do it only if it makes sense and provides value to the reader, if not just leave at that and/or casually mention that you have a YouTube channel. You don´t want to spoke people by trying to push them into watching your video content right from the start, you have to generate some interest first, and Medium is a great place to do just that.
  • Engage with others. By commenting on niche-related posts that you are actually interested in and getting to know the type audience that participates you´ll get a better notion on how to approach them and build rapport.

Just try at least some of these and you´ll see…

Hey, you might even learn something!

Don´t set and forget, optimize your content yearly, more so when you´ve got a solid audience with it, you want to take care of that as it will generate new viewers day in and day out.

Finally, you should share your content on social media and get more eyeballs and exposure that way.

Final Thoughts

Now you know how you can leverage the power of Medium and get your brand and videos discovered by an audience of raven fans.

As you´ve seen there are a few things you should consider about the platform and it´s the right approach or not depending on your niche.

That bein said, Medium is a great place to thrive and get closer to your people, so having at least some online presence there wouldn´t be a bad idea.
