Let´s talk about how to make money on YouTube with FameBit and get that incredibly well-paid sponsorship you are looking for.
Now, working with big brands can be very lucrative but the truth is that there are a few things you should take care of first to get sponsored.
That´s why there are marketplaces that make the entire process effortless.
Let´s see what YOU can do to get the best possible deal and, if possible, be approached by some of the big names in the future.
What Is It & How Does It Work?
FameBit is a marketplace where brands and content creators can meet each other and work together.
It is a platform that offers a matching service in exchange for a small fee so that you don´t need to do any guess work when trying to find sponsors for your channel.
It is fairly simple to use…
As a creator, you get to choose the Sponsor you want to work with from the FameBit platform, submit your creative proposal to them, and let them know what´s your promotion fee.
Once you complete the promotion and you share with your fans you´ll get paid via PayPal or Check, depending on what you choose.
Yep! Pretty straightforward.
In fact.
I would say that some of the brands and name you get to work with wouldn´t be even a possibility if you didn´t use FameBit or any other type of alternative to it. (unless you are already a YouTube star)
Now, in order to get sponsored by ANY well-respected brand you need to cover all your bases and get your act together.
Specifically, here are 7 things you should do to be considered as a reliable content creator and a powerful business partner.
Caveat! Nowadays FameBit only allows YouTube channels with at least 5,000 followers.
1. Build Your Personal Brand
The important thing about building your brand is not only that you use the same layout for your thumbnails or that you use the exact same phrase/slogan at the beginning of every video, but it is also about choosing your niche/industry and you why, the overall message you want to convey.
If all of your videos aim toward the same goal, inform, educate, and/or entertain the viewer around the same type of content it´ll be easier for brands to notice whether you are a good fit or not.
One of the business person I most admire is Gary Vaynerchuk, and not because he hustles, but rather because he sticks to his core message and his why since he got first started on YouTube and enterpeneurship more than a decade ago.
Now, if you already know or are working on your why and what you want to convey with your videos here are a few practical tips to build a brand and develop consistency over time:
- Branded Thumbnails. Whether is by using the same layout in every single thumbnail, choosing the same colors, or because YOU are in every single one, you want to develop a sense of consistency and branding throughout your entire channel.
- Fonts & Colors. One simple way to brand yourself, channel, site, social media accounts, and so on, is to simply pick a font, and color, that´s it. It sounds simple but it is effective. Check out Philip VanDusen channel to learn a bit more on what makes brands stand out.
- Develop a Style. Finally, develop your own style by being yourself on camera. The clothes you wear, the way you speak, the scenery you choose says something about you. So, try to make deliberate decisions about those kinds of things so that you convey the message you actually want to convey.
2. Know Your Numbers!
If you want to be taken seriously then YOU have to take it seriously first, and one way to just that is by being prepared beforehand.
Knowing what are your most successful videos, what´s your watch time, the audience retention rate of your channel, among other things, is key for long term growth.
As sponsors worry about ROI (Return Of Investment) THIS kind of previous work will help them decide to choose you as you´ll be seen as someone who has a professional approach with your work.
In fact.
YouTube itself has made available an entire crash course solely dedicated to YouTube Analytics for you to get into right away without paying anything.
You´ll learn to analyze not only how´s your channel doing, but also who´s watching your videos, how engaged your audience is by taking a look at the big picture, how much money you are making, and what can you do to improve.
So, don´t wait a single minute and get into Analytics, learn to keep up with your numbers, grow your audience, and make it a part of your overall growth strategy as a YouTuber.
3. Dive Into The Comments
If there´s anything that brands that could sponsor you will look into (after they´ve seen the obvious numbers like your subscriber count) is how engaged your audience actually is with your videos.
Whether they like, comment, or share your content it doesn´t matter as much as long as they interact in some way with it.
Those are the kind of social signals brand tend to look for when working with influencer because it is a clear indicator that there is some real influence going on.
So, engage and interact with your viewers!
How?
Simple, encourage your fans to comment on your video by asking them what they liked about it, what other content they´d like to see, and (more importantly) respond to their queries.
Jeff Rose, from the Wealth Hacker channel, how has more than 200k subscribers always takes the time to reply to comments from fans.
So, if a big channel like that does this then you should too!
The comment section (and not only the number of views) is one of the main indicators of how engaged your viewers are with what you are sharing on your videos.
Therefore, taking the time to dive into it, respond, and let people know that you actually care is (without a doubt) one of the most effective marketing strategies there is to work with important brands.
4. Do Your Research
Another thing you MUST do when trying to reach brands to work with is to do some research and find out what are the top, medium, and small brands you could offer your services to.
You´ll find there are tons of opportunities out there (even freat FameBit alternative platforms) online and offline to get started.
Also, the more experience you get the better and more reliable your portfolio of past works will be, and the better gigs you´ll get.
You should also do your research in terms of what type of content would be appealing to the brands you´ve chosen to work with.
For example, if I wanted to work with a big brand I would probably start by doing a quick search on Google to see if there are affiliate programs available, what they ask from you, what are their values and mission as a business, try to find other influencer that already work with them, try to contact them and/or watch the type of content they´ve made, is it informational, transactional (like a review), or does it aim to entertain the audience and just casually mention the sponsor of the video.
The goal is to get a clear line of action you can take in order to get the deal you want, the clearer your goal is the clear your plan and execution will be.
The bottom line?
Do your research, pick a brand/s to work with, take action!
5. Don´t “Sell Out” Your Viewers
Another thing you should avoid at all cost is to sell your viewers out.
Your audience is your TRUE source of income, the real reason behind your success, and many times what drives your daily execution.
Now, of course, the content you make and the effort you put in to create your videos IS what makes or breaks your channel but the truth is that if people are not longer interested on what you have to say your chances of success will reduce to zero.
So, you shouldn´t sell out your viewers, respect their time and the attention they´ve given to you, and use that to your advantage, make the time they spend watching you worth while.
You should try to provide value even when promoting a certain product or service, and you can do that by first, choosing a brand that you actually trust and like, and second getting creative at integrating that brand into your content. (more on that later)
6. Basic Negotiation Tactics
You can get better sponsors and/or deals if you become a better negotiator.
Kristi Hedges from Forbes says there are a few things we tend to do in a negotiation that can backfire and the best common practices from the best negotiators are not so common.
Here are three specific tactics you can apply in your Influencer negotiations to get the best possible deal:
- Share your info. The author explains that we tend to approach a negotiation being very guarded and wary and that we think this is smart, but the truth is that it inhibits trust and can have a really negative impact. Instead, you should share more information, even unrelated information can do the trick as studies have shown it helps to build trust and can set a positive tone that leads to agreement.
- Know your price and your walkaway terms. Another important thing about negotiation is to know your price, what is your end goal or your minimum acceptable offer, as well as your walkaway terms, and stick to them. One pitfall does not define your entire influencer career, in fact, it helps you to increase respect within your industry and speaks to others in a clear way that you´re serious about what you bring to the table.
- Learn to counter. Once you begin negotiating it´s likely to happen that you´ll get a counter offer, which is great because it says that they are interested. So, follow Kristi´s advice and don´t counter too low, too quickly, like most people do, instead let the other party know they are off, and make a compelling offer that suits both parties. That will tell the other person you know you have something to offer but are willing to negotiate. (on fair terms)
7. Creative Sponsor Integration
This means that you should always try to integrate sponsorships, whether that is products or services, into your videos with creativity.
You can make an educational video around the product your interested in promoting, and not just make another review of it.
For example, if you want to promote the newest Canon camera on the market you might want to check out some of the features that differentiate that particular product from others, whether that is the Autofocus feature, or that its manual mode is fairly simple to use, or whatever it is.
The goal is to find a few things you can use on a video and integrate them in a way that provides valuable content to the viewer whether they decide to buy it or not.
Going back to the camera example, you can make a video on 5 tips to improve your YouTube videos, and talk about the importance of focus and how you can set it right manually, or choose a camera with Autofocus, like the one you intended to promote.
You get the idea, don´t be pushy and selly, try to provide value even when you are promoting a product/service.
PRO TIP! Check out how Aaron Marino from the Alpha M channel does this, it works great for him and his audience.
